Mid-Metro Walking Half-Marathon Sunday, May 18, 2008 - 9:00am |
|
At just over 13 miles, this pleasant but challenging walk will traverse several beautiful and interesting neighborhoods in two states and three counties. We will begin in North Kansas City, MO and walk to Prairie Village, KS. A picnic lunch will be provided at the end of the walk. The walk begins at 9:00 and we should reach the endpoint by about 1:40. NOTE: All available transportation slots are now full. All new registrants must arrange for their own transportation from the endpoint of the walk. The walk will begin at 9:00am at Macken Park in North Kansas City, MO, then proceed south to Porter Park in Prairie Village, KS. Our progress will be broadcast live on the web, at www.livewalking.com. Most of the route is pleasant, however there are at least 4 long, steady inclines so be prepared for that. Due to bridge construction we will bypass Liberty Memorial rather than walk up its 150+ steps so you can be thankful for that. :) We will also be crossing the Missouri River on the Heart of America Bridge, which at present does not have a barrier separating traffic from pedestrians. There is a very wide shoulder but traffic will be whizzing by and the bridge takes about 10-12 minutes to cross. Because of this aspect, no children or teens will be allowed on this walk. Preparation Tips:
Macken Park is located just north of Downtown at 1000 E. 27th Avenue in North Kansas City, MO. Parking is available east of the tennis courts on 27th or on the west side of the park along Howell. We will meet in the grove at the west end of the tennis courts. Driving Directions to the End Point: If you have someone meeting you or are dropping off a car in the morning, Porter Park is located just north of 75th Street and just east of Roe on Tomahawk Road, or just southwest of the Prairie Village Shops. We should reach Porter Park by about 1:40. Registration is required for this walk. We will begin walking at 9:00am. (If you are running late, call me at 816-509-4466 to let me know.) |
